The EFW-L1 Atmospheric Electric Field Lightning Early-Warning Instrument directly measures changes in the atmospheric electric field before and after lightning events. Designed for continuous long-term operation, one station monitors within a 20-kilometre range and provides 5 to 30 minutes of warning lead time. Multiple stations can be networked for wider-area warning.
