Wildfire Wind-Field Monitoring Payload

WF-L1 integrates a lightweight laser wind sensor, inertial reference, wireless communications and independent power into a UAV-carried suspension payload. Deployed rapidly above a target area, it continuously observes near-ground wind speed and direction from above and relays the results to an operator terminal, supporting fire-behaviour assessment, suppression-route planning and personnel safety.

Near-Ground Wind Awareness
Carried directly above the incident area, the downward-looking sensor continuously captures wind-speed and direction changes close to the fireground, complementing fixed ground observations.
Rapid Airborne Deployment
The wind sensor, inertial unit, communications, battery and suspension are integrated as one payload for rapid access to mountains, forests and areas difficult for personnel to reach.
Continuous Data Relay
Wind-field observations are collected throughout the mission and transmitted over a wireless link for live visualization at the operator terminal.
Operational Decision Support
Live wind information supports fire-spread assessment, suppression-route planning and safer positioning or withdrawal decisions for frontline crews.
